Delighted, shocked...and making its Mark!


A director of Leicestershire Business Awards double-winner Mark Group says the firm is delighted and shocked by its success. The Beaumont Leys company took home both the Enterprise Through Innovation award, sponsored by One Leicester, as well as the Leicestershire Business of the Year 2009 trophy, sponsored by Business Link.

More than 600 people were at the Leicestershire Business Awards 2009, in association with the Leicester Mercury, at De Montfort Hall

The Mark Group has grown from humble beginnings to become the country's largest fitter of insulation in homes.The firm has insulated six million homes in the past three years and expects demand to grow further over the next few years.

Founded in 1974, the group employs 300 people in Leicestershire and has more than a dozen distribution centres across the UK. Commercial director Bill Rumble said: "We are delighted, as well as shocked, to have won this award."

Andy Gilbert, managing director of Go Mad Thinking, of Woodhouse Eaves, won the Entrepreneur of the Year award, sponsored by Vantis.

Fashion chain Joules Clothing, of Market Harborough, won the Sales and Marketing award, sponsored by De Montfort University.

Hammerson, which developed the Highcross Leicester shopping centre, took the county council-sponsored Investing in Leicestershire prize.

Leicester law firm Howes Percival won the Ashfield In2Focus-sponsored Contribution to the Community award.

The Oval Group-sponsored Success Through People award went to Imago, the commercial arm of the University of Loughborough.

Nature's Purest, of Kibworth Beauchamp, won the New Business award, sponsored by Harvey Ingram, whose senior partner, Stephen Woolfe, was chief judge.

The evening, sponsored by Freeth Cartwright, Prospect Leicestershire and Tenon, included a speech from former trade minister Lord Jones of Birmingham. He said the quality of the businesses which had entered the awards highlighted the strength of entrepreneurship in the county.

Katie Bennett, of awards organiser Wow Effect, said: "We are pleased to see that despite the economic slowdown Leicestershire is still celebrating its successes. We have done this for 10 years now and are so proud that Leicestershire companies are continuing to put themselves in front of the spotlight and shout about what they are doing
