Leicestershire design firm wins £1m deal with Diageo
A firm which creates shop displays for top brands plans to create jobs after winning a £1m contract with global drinks giant Diageo.
Sector Design and Marketing, at the LE3 office complex, off Ratby Lane on the outskirts of Leicester, will help promote Johnnie Walker whiskeys after beating competition from 20 other companies.
The firm said the deal was initially worth more than £1m and would be one of its biggest contracts this year.
Managing director Andrew Hampson now hopes to get involved with Diageo's other brands, which include Smirnoff and Guinness.
The deal includes creating displays to promote Johnnie Walker in shops around the world, including the Middle East and Asia.
The firm is also designing shop displays for Ferrero Rocher in airports around the world after a separate contract won in December, worth up to £1m.
Mr Hampson said there were 50 staff in Leicestershire after he recently doubled the size of its sales team and several new posts would be on the cards as the business gets to work with Diageo.
He is aiming to increase annual turnover, which reached £10m in the year to the end of February, to £15m in the next two years.
He said: "It's early days but we're expecting to get involved with Diageo's other brands.
"That could be worth millions of pounds a year.
"We're not complacent and we're not sitting back. We've decided to expand and take on additional people when other firms are closing their doors to new staff.
"We feel there'll be some other competitors that go by the wayside this year and that's when new opportunities will come about for us.
"It's a big change of pace for us but it's been very considered."
Sector moved to LE3 from a smaller office in Desford earlier this year after securing funding from NatWest.
The firm was taken over in a management buyout led by Mr Hampson in 2004. Last year it acquired rival firm Inca Displays, of Lutterworth, which designs displays for a number of cosmetic brands.
Sector's other customers include Nokia, Samsung and The Carphone Warehouse.
